Magazines for Business and Finance

If you want to step away from the lightweight magazines then there are a number of publications which are aimed at the more business minded. Probably the archetypal magazine is the Harvard Business Review which is essential reading for anyone involved in the consultancy business or with an interest in management. It is a well respected business publication where articles look at the pressing factors influencing business and corporate culture both in the US and UK. The fact that it is a monthly magazine keeps the content very fresh and relevant. Most businesses worth their salt have a subscription to the Harvard Business Review which also provides an online version for those remote workers who don’t get into the office to read the hard copy. Magazines for your Children

There are hundreds of magazines available in most newsagents and supermarkets and a large section of the bottom shelf are magazines aimed at the pre-schoolers and young children. Most of their favourite TV stars (Peppa Pig, Diego & Dora, Thomas the Tank etc) have their own publication. The brightly coloured covers at children’s eye level temp every toddler into begging mummy for their favourite magazine. To encourage the kids even further pretty much every issue comes with a fantastic free toy attached to the front cover. Purchases in this house have been made on the basis of a plastic mobile phone and a tiara in the past. One free phone is still going but most tat falls apart within minutes of getting home. Certainly my children are more interested in having a magazine (and toy) in their hands than looking at their favourites on the internet but they are still quite young. [Read more...]

Is the Celeb Magazine for you?

There is a whole area of the magazine market dedicated to celebrity lifestyle and gossip and they range from the glossy higher end magazines like Hello and OK to the weekly gossip mags which tend to be considered more ‘trashy’.  Ok also has an associated website so you can get your fix of celebrity lifestyle online too. They are famous for having exclusive pictures of celebrity weddings, houses and babies which the magazine pays a premium for but it is why the readers buy the magazine. It offers to provide an insight into celebrities ‘real’ lives however whenever I look at the big photo shoot spreads it all seems to posed and perfect and certainly not like my ‘real’ life although obviously I’m not a celebrity. Mood for Magazines!

I am a fickle magazine reader, I make my purchases based on my mood at that particular moment and generally only buy magazines for the purpose of filling time like a train journey, flight or waiting room. Sometimes you just don’t have the concentration or appropriate setting to get into a book and a few quick articles are more suited for smaller chunks of time. I find that I am swayed by what’s on the cover and do feel annoyed when the cover is obscured by a wrapper or free gift. However sometimes the free gift itself is enough to drive a purchase although I don’t think any previous freebie has been quite as good as a recent shopping voucher with a fashion and women’s lifestyle magazine. It was certainly better than a free make up bag, vest or lip gloss which I have received in the past. [Read more...]

Online Magazines vs Real Magazines

I think there is a pleasure in flipping through the pages of a glossy magazine which you simply don’t experience by clicking through the on-line equivalent. There are numerous e zines and online versions of magazines with associated websites as well as hundreds of blogs dedicated to discussing fashion and trends there is still a huge market for magazines. Subscriptions to Magazines

I’m not a big magazine buyer but I have friends who probably spend around £20-30 a month on purchasing their favourite glossy magazines. Although whilst that seems like a lot of money cover process have gone up over the last few years so that probably only equates to 3 or 4 weekly gossip magazines and a couple of fashion or lifestyle publications. A single issue of the popular fashion magazines like Vogue or Cosmopolitan have a cover price of approximately £4 which soon adds up.

The one magazine I do read is Zest – a fitness and healthy lifestyle focussed publication but not for the serious athlete, more the interested and semi motivated real person. Rather than buy it from the newsagents I organised a subscription so my Zest is waiting for me on the door mat every month without me having to remember to go and buy it. Better still I ordered the subscription using my Tesco vouchers so it’s actually ‘free’ in terms of real money. [Read more...]

Magazine Advertising explained

Magazine Advertising is classed as the adverts you see within a publication.
